bar ctatus anzeige element
Description
The Bar Status Display Element is a central interface for the bar crew and goes by the name Trafotron. It serves as a signaling device for everyone in the Nerdarea and adjacent spaces. Using a simple yet effective cable mechanism, it indicates whether the bar is open, closed, or briefly active.
Functionality
At the bottom edge of the Trafotron, a cable is visible, plugged in on both ends. This state stands for “open” – electrons can flow, drinks can flow.
- Open: Cable plugged in on both sides → the bar is open.
- Last Call: If one of the two cable ends is unplugged, the current stops. The system switches to Last Call mode and sends a blinking signal for three minutes into the Nerdarea. This way all members and guests know that the bar will soon close.
- Short Operation: If the cable is briefly plugged in and then immediately unplugged again, this signals a spontaneous, very limited opening – usually just to quickly serve everyone present.
Significance for Operation
The cable setting of the Trafotron has become a ritual. It allows the crew to clearly communicate the current status of the bar without words and without shouting. For members, the blinking Last Call signal is almost as familiar as the “last round” announcement in a pub – only here, expressed in the unique c-base aesthetic.
Historical Context
The Trafotron is not simply a technical device but an artefact. Its design recalls improvised interfaces from the early days of the station, when simple circuits were given symbolic meaning. Over the years, it has become an integral part of bar culture, continually maintained, rewired, or decorated.
Even today, the rule remains: whoever operates the cable speaks to the entire station.
